What to do with the kids… Inside the mind of a preaching pastor…
Mar 25

Okay, so I’m usually not one to put out the “Lutheran” billboard.  But alas, I can’t escape the fact that I am proudly a memeber of the LCMS - and apparently, I’m not alone.  Just for grins, I thought you’d like to see a list of a few celebrities that also like to have potluck dinners and drink German beer.  And by the looks of things, apparently the LCMS has a firm hold on the entertainment news division of Hollywood.

Shane Battier, Memphis Grizzlies NBA

Tom Brady, New England Patriots quarterback

Morgan Ensberg, formerHouston Astros ballplayer

Troy Aikman, FOX Sports, former NFL player

Pat O’Brien, former “Access Hollywood” host, now “ The Insider” host

Mary Hart, “Entertainment Tonight” host

Jack Cafferty, CNN anchor

Loni Anderson, actor

Beau & Jeff Bridges, actors (entire Bridges family are active Lutherans)

Dana Carvey, comedian and actor

Kirsten Dunst, actor

Paul “Ace” Frehley, rock musician “KISS”

David Hasselhoff, actor/producer, “Baywatch,” all around stud

Lyle Lovett, singer

William H. Macy, actor

Felicity Huffman, actor “Desperate Housewives”

William Hurt, actor

John Mellencamp, musician and singer

Andy Richter, former “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” co-host

Bruce Willis, actor

Steve Jobs, Apple Computer co-founder

Norman Schwarzkopf, US Army General

Some of those are just plain funny.  I know, it’s tempting to get excited about pioneers in the computer world and 5 star generals.  I, however, am excited about that fact that I share church membership with David Hasselhof, Lonnie Anderson and Beau Bridges.  Rock on.  I can’t wait until this list is updated again next year.  There are many more, but those - in my view - are the best.

The Hoff is a Lutheran! This is perhaps the greatest day of my life.

  2. Kristen W. Says:

Hate to break it to you, but Tom Brady is Catholic.

  3. Matt Says:

Kristen - you break my heart by breaking that news. You are right. Apparently he and the family were members of a lutheran church then converted to Catholicism when he was young. Shucks.. Oh well, we had them for a while…..

  4. Tanya Says:

You can add Dan Rather to the list - he was a founding member of St. Andrew, right here in Houston.

I know that as a Pistons fan you may not be aware of this, but I’m pretty sure Battier is playing for the Rockets now. In fact, I know this because I watched the Rockets get their heads handed to them by the Spurs on Sunday!!!! Defending Champs Baby!

  6. Kate Says:

The best is Dana Carvey, who modeled Church Lady on one of his Sunday school teachers. I just knew he had to be Lutheran, because I had a Church Lady for 3rd and 4th grade Sunday school, too. I heard Valerie Harper is a Lutheran. Anybody know for sure?

  7. Carolyn Schrader Says:

This is a great list…but we need to add a few more:

    Albert Schweizer (sp.?)

    and imagine this:

    Karl Marx
    Lee Harvey Oswald
    Edwin Meese
    Nietsche

    …oh well !!

    Carolyn

  8. Matt Says:

Wow. Way to be a downer Carolyn.

  9. Kim Says:

I’m afraid Valerie Harper is Jewish—not very Lutheran at all!

  10. John Says:

you can add the late dale earnheart and his son to the list

  11. Rodney Says:

    Bruce Willis is also Lutheran

  12. Perry Says:

A better list would be those who are practicing Lutherans.

  13. Dave Says:

I heard Bruce Willis doesn’t practice Lutheranism any more. Oh well, he’s still awesome.

  14. Gretchen Says:

I’ve had a crush on Troy Aikman since I was 12 years old (I’m now 30). Now that I know he’s a Lutheran I just fell in love with him a little more all over again. I always knew he was awesome :)
