There is a strict rule in the Popovits house: no Christmas until after Thanksgiving. You see, there are some people who apparently don’t know how to read a calendar and start celebrating Christmas some time in mid August. And although I am all about giving Jesus his due, I feel that humming Christmas songs and stringing up lights before you’ve carved a turkey or mashed some potatoes ends up watering down two wonderful holidays. So in our house there’s no music, no movies, and no decorations until after the last Thursday of November. Period.
But once Friday hits [pause for dramatic effect] it’s on.
Which means that a few days ago we started our Christmas celebration in full force - beginning with an evening of setting up our ginormous fake tree. It may be a fake, but the fun is always real. Just ask Ava. She had a blast. In fact, every time we turn on the tree she does a little countdown: “1…2…3…Kwis-mus!” This year we plugged in a camera and captured the fun so that you could enjoy. Take a look. Oh - and if you’re wondering the music is courteous of the insanely talented Frank.

Great video! I have to agree with your tradition of Thanksgiving and Christmas. Although my wife attempts to every year get me to start decorating before Thanksgiving. Sadly this year I broke down just a bit. Put up some tree lights in our front yard. Since we live close to her family my new tradition is to go to my mother-in-laws house and decorate the tree.

What a great video. Very entertaining. How many trips to the store did you make to get more lights? That was my favorite part. I told Dave you added the music just to cover up the cussing. Ha Ha. The kids think we should make a video of our own. That would be interesting since it usually takes us about a week to decorate our tree. We made our annual trek to the tree farm to cut it down last Sunday. Doug did the honors this year. And yes, you can finds photos of it on Facebook.
